WAKEFIELD - THE CITY WITHOUT A CLUB
DESCRIPTION
Production Haus has teamed up with Wakefield AFC to tell the story of a city ready to make its mark on the football map. “Wakefield: The City Without a Club” is the beginning of a documentary journey that follows the transformation of Wakefield AFC—an ambitious club working to rise from the semi-professional divisions into the professional leagues.
Wakefield is the UK’s largest city without a professional football team. But with a new vision, committed leadership, and the development of a state-of-the-art facility at Brook Farm in Walton, that’s set to change. This is about more than sport—it’s about creating a legacy for the city.
Our initial video, a 90-second short filmed during a high-stakes playoff match (which, despite a tough loss, showed the grit of the team and the passion of its supporters), served as a test piece to prove we could bring football stories to life with cinematic quality. Now, we’re ready to go further—with a full documentary series that captures the highs, lows, and every pivotal moment in between.
With the right support and funding, we aim to build a compelling series that showcases not just the club’s rise, but the impact it’s having on the Wakefield community—creating jobs, inspiring youth, and building something people can believe in.
WHAT DID WE DO?
Spoke with Wakefield AFC’s owners to share our ambition of creating a full documentary series that follows the club’s rise—and discussed the potential for investment to bring that vision to life.
Deployed a compact, agile crew for a test shoot during a pivotal playoff match, with three camera operators on the ground and a drone capturing breathtaking aerial footage.
Edited and produced a 90-second film that captured the atmosphere, emotion, and energy of the club and its supporters—even in the face of a tough loss.
Delivered a compelling test piece that proves our ability to tell powerful football stories and sets the stage for a larger, long-term documentary project.
